BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- First Friday is around the corner, and that means it’s time for the Birmingham Public Library’s popular spoken word poetry/craft beer event, Bards & Brews. This time, the poetry will flow on Friday, July 7, 2017, from the Five Points West Regional Branch Library, 4812 Avenue W.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the vocal stylings of local hip-hop performer Erthling. BPL will open the mic to the crowd at 7 p.m. with emcee Voice Porter keeping the evening moving an exciting pace. Be sure to get there early to get your name on the list to perform.
In a recent interview, regular Bards & Brews performer Michael Harriot urged the public to come for what will be an unforgettable night with some of the most talented spoken word poets in metro Birmingham.

"Anyone reading this should attend a poetry event if they have never attended one,” Harriot said. “If they have, they should take it upon themselves to bring someone with them who has never attended a poetry event."

As always, Bards and Brews is free admission with free local craft beer samples. You must be 18+ to attend and 21+ to sample the beer. Make BPL’s Five Points West Library your destination on Friday night, July 7. For more information, contact Brandon C. Smith at 205-591-4944 or bcsmith@bham.lib.al.us.
